Loona Church

Loona church is located to the southeast of the aforementioned early ecclesiastical enclosure, which is also at Loona. There is only scant remaining evidence of Loona church—namely the south wall, which reached almost 2.5 meters, and piles of stones nearby. Loona church was originally surrounded by a graveyard-- and a holy well was situated nearby also. However, there are no remains of either surviving today (Michigan State University, 2009).

Loona church was once one of the important sites of pilgrimage along the Tochar Padraig—the ancient pilgrim path. Many key sites can be viewed from Loona, including the Partry mountains and Croagh Patrick to the southwest—not to mention the ruins of Gweeshadan Castle on a nearby hill (Michigan State University, 2009).
