Kilbrenan Church (Gweeshadan Old Church)

Located in the southeast corner of the Gweeshadan graveyard—on slightly elevated ground– is the site of the old Gweeshadan church. All that remains of the church is a 5 meter stretch of the south wall. A splayed feature, near the western end of the south wall, suggests that a window was once present in the wall.

The site was simply labelled “church” in the 1838 OS map. However, on the 1929 edition—for unknown reasons—it was labelled “Kilbrenan church.”
